I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at the University of Mississippi. I received my Ph.D. from Michigan State University in August 2023.
My research centers questions concerning political representation and political behavior within the subfields of racial and ethnic politics and gender politics, with a particular focus on Black women. I am especially interested in using mixed methods (including surveys, interviews, focus groups) to understand how Black women make political decisions and construct political identities.
My work has been published in PS: Political Science and Politics and has received a conditional acceptance from Oxford Intersections: Racism by Context. Two other manuscripts are under revise and resubmits in subfield journals and more are in the pipeline. In 2024, my coauthors and I were recipients of the Best Paper Award from the Civic Engagement Section of APSA.
I am a 2024-2026 Isom Fellow with the Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies at the University of Mississippi. I am also a 2025 Mobile Institute on Scientific Teaching (NIST MoSI) Fellow and a 2018-2019 APSA Minority Fellow. I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University and an M.A. in Political Science from Michigan State University.
